Design process

Tom has spent years developing a style that allows gardens to feel natural, focusing on atmosphere and mood, with a sensitivity to the immediate environment. Tom works on feeling and instinct, creating romantic and therapeutic spaces. He has a multi-layered approach that adds depth to a garden and often opts for minimal architectural elements.

The first step in working together would be a meeting in your garden to allow us to fully understand the scope. We'll discuss your ideas for the space, while making note of our instant impressions and observations.

If we think we are the best fit for each other, then we can cover more detail. How you plan to use the space, what a garden means to you and how you would like it to develop. What are the key views and what type of atmosphere the space imbues.

Once we have agreed a design fee, a detailed site analysis will be carried out, followed by the concept design. This will be discussed with you so that any changes can be made along the way. When both of us are happy with the concept design, we will start working on the detailed design, to include plans and drawings to set out your garden.

Our team can supply and install all plants and soft landscaping elements. For any hard landscaping and construction, we would liaise with contractors to ensure a smooth process.

Following the installation, we would discuss ongoing maintenance requirements with you to ensure that your garden establishes well and continues to flourish over the years ahead.

For those who aren't ready to take on a large project, or would simply appreciate some horticultural and design advice, Tom also offers consultation sessions.

These involve a site visit where Tom can listen to your concerns, answer your questions and make suggestions to enhance your garden. He can advise on pruning, general maintenance and new planting ideas.
